Long Fangs and Why I am Scumbag Steve

Back when I first started collecting my Space Wolf army, one of the first unit I bought was the old metal-plastic Long Fang pack. I had been reading the Ragnar books from the Black Library and they had some cool descriptions of Long Fangs.

One thing I thought was really cool was the fact that I could almost build two full squads from one box. Somewhere along the way I decided I wanted to have one squad of each heavy weapon. I know Long Fangs can split fire, but with only a maximum of five dudes (at the time), most of the time, the first casualty was the Pack Leader, and then I was only shooting at one target at a time, and Lascannons and Heavy Bolters didn't make much sense to me.

So flash forward to the new Codex, and Long Fangs are now very viable. So much so, that 5x missile launchers is almost a 2+ choice. Now I usually take 8-10 missiles, because there really isn't another choice that can do the same job. But I've always had my eye out for some deals on more missile launchers seeing as I only have 7 guys with missiles.

So the opportunity arose and I snatched up 8 more missiles. So I have becomes Scumbag Steve, because I can now field 15 Long Fangs.

I am such a d-bag.

Anywho, here are some WIP pics. Half of these guys already had their bases done and the base-coat applied. The other half, started from scratched. So far the bases are done, the base coats, high lights and wash applied to the army. The leather has been painted. The silver has been painted washed and highlighted.

I still have quite a bit to do, and as I have noticed in the past, doing 27 minis at a time makes every step time consuming. But I am hoping to have these guys finished by the end of the week.

Here they are. When all is said and done, I'll have 35 Long Fangs. Anyone up for Apocalypse?

So after I got everything together I realized that I was short a multi-melta. Way to go dummy!

First group of four missiles. They'll get their backpacks when everything else is done.

Here is the second set. once I add them to the 7 I have already finished, I'll have 15 total (I'm such a jerk).

Geeze the metal lascannons as a pain in the butt. So lopsided.

Heavy bolters have got to be the coolest looking of the heavy weapons. These guys just look like they are ready to mow people down.

Plasma cannons look so cool! I would love to start dropping 5 templets on people, but I'm sure I'd kill half the squad on the first shot!

  1. ML Longfangs are all kinds of win. I've currently got two 5 -tube teams and a 4 man Lascannon team. HB's will come eventually but are getting directed towards my Crimson Fists for the moment. Have you thought about Logan-bombing with the multi-meltas?

  2. I have taken the Logan bomb with 5 MMs and Arjac. They dropped in Turn one and shot at a squadron of Leman Russes and a Hellhound. They ended up immobilizing a Russ and then got shot to piss. All the MMs died, and Logan and Arjac both took a wound.

    Good Times!

  3. That sounds like a mix of bad luck and soaking up all the IG firepower for one turn. I haven't tried Loganbombing myself so I was curious to hear if its a good as the internets try to claim it is. Sounds like I should stick with my scouts though.

  4. It was a fun game because I had the Logan bomb and then two squads of scouts.

In that game, Arjac did a good job in the rest of the game. He blew up a Chimera and chased off the squad inside. He also finished up the command squad and went on to contest the second objective and be so scary, a full squad from another Chimera was too afraid and try to kill him from contesting.
