Chaos Space Marine Sorcerer: WiP 1

Since realizing I forgot to put any commentary into my last post for my Chaos Space Marine Lord, I decided to go back and fix it, you can see an update post here.

For those that wont go back, I feel obligated to relate the story of where I got these minis.

A few weeks back, Dave Taylor (of Dave Taylor Fameposted on his blog that a friend of his was getting rid of some of his miniatures.

So I boogied over to Akers' blog and snatched up an old-school Chaos Lord with Power Fist and a Chaos Sorcerer (although seeing as these are still current minis, I'm not sure if is fair to call them old-school).

Chaos Space Marine Lord: WiP 1

Well it appears I forgot to do a little write-up when this post originally went live. I doubt many will come back to read this, but I'll do it anywho.

Book Review: Space Hulk

Every once in a while I troll the Black Library site looking for ebooks they have published that may have not got as much press as some of the flashier titles. The other week I found Space Hulk by Gav Thorpe.

This is an ebook version of the novella (not sure why it isn't called a short story) that came with the Space Hulk board game from GW. I have played a few of the mission for Space Hulk so I know some of the background information, and it is nice to see that the novella was written with the board game in mind.

All of the characters from the board game are in the story. In fact, it was like Mr. Thorpe dramatized each of the missions that were in the board game. And to top it off, it was very well done.

One of the things I found a bit odd was some of the speech from the Blood Angels terminators, I really didn't think the Blood Angels were as "holy" as the speech made it sound. I would have thought maybe that the Dark Angels, or Black Templars talked that way, but not the Blood Angels. Please note, this is not a criticism, just something I didn't realize before reading the story.

Podcasting: Garagehammer

Its been almost a year since my last look at some gaming Podcasts, and boy have things changed. 40K Radio changed before I did their review, but most of the other I listened to have changed quite a bit, and I have since had to change my listening habits.

Today I am going to talk about one of the podcasts I have been listening to quite a bit recently, Garagehammer. Dave and Chris over are Garagehammer are in the unique position of being one of the few US-based WHFB podcasts that I listen to. It seems to me that WHFB is just bigger in the UK and used to be bigger down in Australia.

Ohmygodohmygodohmygod!

The wait is finally over! The Space Wolves finally have a second wave of models! Some could point out that the Dark Eldar have had 47 waves, and pretty much everyone else has just about everything they could need, and I doubt that there is another codex it is missing what arguably could be one of the most dynamic unit in their book, but I'll just say, "squeeeeee!"

BTW, these pics are stolen from the Space Wolves blog.

So finally, we get to see GW's Thunderwolves. It appears that a box of 3 will go for about $60 US. The Fenrisian Wolves will go for about $26, and The Wolf Lord will go for $45.

On top of that, we are supposed to get an Arjac model in finecast for about $28.

I don't think I'll be buying any Fenrisian Wolves, because I made my own, but I do plan on buying some Thunderwolves and at least one Wolf Lord.

Space Wolves Servitors WiP

Quick post today. As my painting ADHD continues, I have thrown some paint on my Space Wolf Servitors. One of the little things I have done with these guys is to hack the heads off of the servitors and slap on the wolf head helmets from the Space Wolf Pack. I am going for a helmetless army, and I thought the wolf head helmets were a little cheesy so I wanted to find a use for them. Enter the servitors.

The jumpsuits for these guys were painted in Astronomicon Grey foundation paint, and then washed with Asurmen Blue. I like the way this kind of looks like denim in my mind. I feel that it gives the guys the blue that is cohesive in my army, but not the same shade as the Space Marine armor.

Anywho, enjoy.

Book Review: Deliverance Lost

The latest in the Horus Heresy books makes me think fondly of some of the older HH novels.

One of the things I really really liked about some of the first HH novels was background information about the primarchs and the founding of their legions and how the Heresy effected them. We saw this in books like Decent of Angles, Fulgrim, and later in The First Heretic, these books have been some of the finest in my opinion.

One of the trickiest things about this book is that it is a sequel to Raven's Flight, and I am not sure if as many people listen to the audio books as the written books. The good news is that Gav Thorpe does a good job of filling in some of the gaps. You may not know exactly what is going on with Marcus Valerius' dreams, but we know he had them, and that they ultimately led him to go bail our Corax.

This book picks up at the end of Raven's Flight, and at the end of the Istavaan V massacre. The Ravens are fleeing the Istavaan system, and Corax is hoping that his father can help him rebuild his shattered legion after he leave 75,000 dead battle brothers on Istavaan.

Grey Knights Librarian: WiP 1

It has been way to long in coming, but I have finally started work on my Grey Knights army. I figured I would do a test model, and I don't usually do thing half way, so I decided to do the Librarian. This guy got a spray of Boltgun Metal from my airbrush, and then a healthy slathering of Asurmen Blue.

Chaos Space Marine Lord with Jump Pack: Complete!

And so we come to the end of another mini. I almost feel sad every time I finish a really cool mini, and this guy was really cool. I like this guy for the fact that he is not too over the top chaos-ie. In my humble opinion he is just chaos-ie enough.

Book Review: Emperor's Finest

Man I love Ciaphas Cain. If someone had told me before I read For the Emperor, that someone would be able to write a comic take of the Grim Dark of 40k, I would have thought it was doomed to failure. And then Ciaphas Cain came into my life, and the Grim Dark changed.

This book is out of order with the other books (it would kind of have to be after "Cain's Last Stand" taking place technically after Ciaphas retires) and that was a little bit weird for me because there were certain things that the readers knew, but Cain himself didn't know as the action was taking place, but thankfully, as with all the Cain books, we have the footnotes written by Amberly Vail.

Cain has been assigned as an Liason officer to the Reclaimers space marines chapter. I guess he figured with the biggest, baddest bad asses in the galaxy surrounding him, he should be pretty safe.
Silly Caiphas, you should have known better than that. Cain deals almost exclusively with genestealers in this book, and while we've seen him deal with Tyranids before, seeing him tool around a space hulk with terminators was kind of different.

Space Wolves Venerable Dreadnought: WiP 2

The ongoing saga of another one of my Space Wolf Dreadnoughts continues with part two of my old, metal Venerable Dreadnought.

On this update I have mainly worked on the gold, and there is a lot of it.

I usually don't paint a lot of gold, because I don't really like the Citadel golds. Now with this guy I wanted him to be a little blinged out, so I decided to buy some new paints and see if perhaps it was just my old bottles of paint that was messing things up.

Chaos Space Marine Lord with Jump Pack: WiP 2

So last week I had some issues. I was going out of town for a conference, and the blog slipped to the side, and I posted some pics without any descriptions.

Now there really is no excuse for Monday, as I didn't leave until Wednesday, but any teacher will tell you that there is a lot of planning involved with getting things ready for a sub, so that is the best excuse I can come up with.

So without any further whining, here are some updated pics of my Chaos Space Marine Lord with Jump Pack.
