Thunderwolf Delema

So I have been waiting, and waiting, and still waiting for some Thunderwolf miniatures from GW. Here we are, almost 2 years into the Space Wolf codex and I am pretty sure all we are missing from the miniature range are Thunderwolves and Fenrisian wolves. The latter is not much of a big deal, as I think you convert them pretty easily from chaos warhounds as seen here.

This came to the fore, in my mind, recently with the announcement of yet another wave of releases for the Dark Eldar. Now I know that the DEldar players have waited over a decade for a new codex (although I am pretty sure that there are few people that actually bought an army when the 3rd ed. codex came out and kept them until the new one was released). And I know that 99.99% of the miniature range was remade so there are a ton of miniatures to do as opposed to the Space Wolves. I don't begrude the DEldar players anything. I just wish GW would get off their butts and give the Space Wolf Players one of the two kits we are missing to make out line complete (and for the record, I want the Thunderwolves, not the Fenrisian wolves).

I have stayed away from the idea of 3rd party Thunderwolves for a couple of reasons. While there are many different places you can buy 3rd party Thunderwolves from such as cytadela.pl or Mr.Dandy or Mythicast but some of them don't look right in my opinion, and others are a bit expensive.

So as I'm sitting here wondering what to write for a Friday post and these thoughts come to mind.

And then I think back to what happened last week, and I realize that if GW does ever get around to making Thunderwolf Cavalry models, they will probably not be any cheaper than the ones currently on the market from 3rd party vendors. With that thought in mind, I have come to the conclusion that I will probably be purchasing some 3rd party models for my Space Wolves. This isn't the first time I've done this, and I think that it won't be the last.

  1. I think your right to buy third party in the end, especially now with the price increase if they were to release a new one, you'd have empty pockets.

  2. Theres always the impatient option: make them yourself. As long as you make them taller than a Rhino (mine are the height of a Dread) and allow people to shoot it if they can draw LOS to any part of the model you'll be fine.

You're not missing out on much btw - TWC suck ass game-wise. Lords are better but only if part of a Wolfblob.
