Some Actual Finished Product! (Sky Claws 1 of 2)

So I have finished the first half of my Sky Claws, and I am pretty pleased with the way they came out.

Banner Bearer Redux

Well I'm getting tired all the things I have going on all at the same time and I wanted something that I could complete pretty quickly. Enter the Banner Bearer.

I did up this guy for the original BoLScon (now War Games Con). I didn't actually take him in my army, but I just wanted him in there for the heck of it. The best part of him (in my opinion) is the green stuff sculpted wolf-hide banner. This was one of my first forays into green stuffing, and I think it came out pretty well.

With the update, I was just darkening the armor up a bit, and some other things including repainting the power fist red. I really like the pop of red on the model. In addition to that, I did a head swap to keep with the bare-headed theme of my army.

Wolf Priest con Jump Pack (Will the Insanity Ever End?)

Ok, maybe. See there was a problem with I painted up my Ulrik the Slayer model. It turns out that the Space Wolves also paint their "chaplain" armor black, and not blue-grey. Guess which color I painted my Ulrik!

Book Review: Imperial Glory (No Foolin' This Time)

So I dropped the ball by putting a place holder in my schedule and then not actually writing an article. Sorry, my bad.

Anywho, Imperial Glory is another Imperial Guard story. The problem in, my head is that pretty much any Imperial Guard story not set in a city seems to remind me of some of the old Vietnam-era movies such as Apocalypse Now or Platoon, or whatever, and this book is no exceptions. It reminded me a bit of Siege of Firebase Gloria. Now that is not to say that this is a bad think. This book is very good.

This story centers around Major Stanhope and Lieutenant Carson of the 11th Brimlock Consolidated Regiment. Consolidated because the Bromlock had been fighting for 20 years. Only the best of the best are left, and most of them have been been killed leaving only the elite of the elite (like most Guard armies you see on the tabletop now-a-days, all veterans).

On Cheating (Supposedly)

It seems lately that it is difficult to have a single "major" tournament go by without accusations of cheating. I think that this is due to the rise in video coverage. It happened at Adepticon 2010 and Adepticon 2011 and now at the NOVA open. I'm sure that there are more examples, but I'm just a part-time player and I don't spend very long on the web looking up tournament coverage. One thing I did notice is that at my backyard con, War Games Con, I didn't see an outcry of "Foul." I personally believe that this is because there wasn't structured video coverage of the con.

Wolf Guard Battle Leader: Now With Jump Pack! (WiP)

So for some reason, Sky Claws can't be lead by a Wolf Guard pack leader. When I first saw that in the Codex I thought it had to be a mistake. The Wolf Guard can take a jump pack as gear, and they can also be pack leaders for Swift Claw bike squads, so why not Sky Claws. Well here we are years later, and they've never addressed it in a FAQ, so I'm unhappy with GW about that.

So last time I had a Rune Priest leading the Sky Claws. This time, how about a Wolf Guard battle leader? As I've already stated many times before, I doubt I would use a Sky Claw unit in a regular game, so when it came time to pick a load-out for the WGBL I went with cool rather than practical.

Book Review: Nagash the Immortal (Really this time)

Ok, so I totally dropped the ball on this last week, so I am here to make amends.

This is the third book in the Time of Legends, Nagash series, and I think it might be the best. You may recall, but I didn't think too highly of the first book. In my opinion, the jump in time and too many characters was just too much for my poor little brain to follow. The second book made up for this due to being all during the same time, an cutting down on the number of major arcs. The third book follows this trend.

In this book the two major (I shudder to call them) protagonists are Alcadizzar, the prince of Rasetra, and Nagash the old dried up Liche himself.

Rune Priest #4??? Now with Jump Pack!

Well I would never have the Sky Claws running around by themselves. They are Headstrong after all. So who better to lead them but a Rune Priest (or perhaps a Wolf Priest, or maybe even a Wolf Guard Battle Leader, but those are later posts).

So here goes Rune Priest #4.

Swift Claw Snowmobiles? (WiP)

For years I've had this crazy idea to paint up some Space Wolf bikers riding snowmobiles. The main reason I haven't done anything with this idea is two-fold.

First, I think that they are two expensive for what they do, mainly do to the WS 3 BS3. And second, I really don't know if I am a good enough scratch builder to make them look good. I have started to dabble in them, and the beginnings are promising.

School Starts!

Today! I'm teaching Calculus for the first time this year, so the next couple of days, weeks, months (probably pretty much until June I'm guessing) will be a bit hectic. I hope to keep up with the blog but I may not be able to keep up a three-times-a-week schedule. Keep your fingers crossed.

I still have a bit of a backlog from my three-week hiatus at the begining of August, so I'll keep posting those. It may just be like before where there are more book reviews and less hobby posts.

Keep your fingers crossed.

More Sky Claws (WiP)

So I got some bits in from eBay and I am able to put together some more Sky Claws.

Scouts are finally finished (Really!)

I know that I have said in the past that my Wolf Scouts were complete, but that wasn't entirely true. The problem was that I only had 15 of them. My balance was off. Mainly because I only had one Plasma gunner. So I found an oooooold Wolf Scout on eBay, and I finally got him (screw you striking Canadian Postal workers!) a while back, and I have finally slapped some paint on him.

Lots of Work in Progress Pics in the Future

It's been three weeks since my last post, so I figured I better get to getting. I haven't been up to nothing, but I just haven't felt like posting, which is usually odd. Normally if I am having difficulties keeping up with the blog it is because I want to post, but don't want to hobby. This is a first. So in the next few posts I'll be showing you what I've been up to. Most of it is unfinished, and I have been doing a little bit of this, and a little bit of that as I feel like it.

Up first, the first five Sky Claws.

I am really at the end of my Space Wolves army. Mainly because I am not missing much for the FOC, or at least stuff I would consider running. So I had some bits left over and decided to throw some Sky Claws together. I don't know if I'd ever use them in a regular game, most people think they suck, but I hope to get into some Apoc games, and at that level, I'll start throwing in some crazy stuff.
