Rune Priest #3!

Well I took some advice (read: completely stole) from the Space Wolves Blog on how to build a Rune Priest, and I'm pretty please with the conversion.

Deathwatch Has Arrived!

So I got my copy of Deathwatch on Friday, and I must say it is a very impressive looking book. I am having a good time reading through it. It seems very familiar after playing Dark Heresy a couple of times. There are a lot of cool toys in the book, and best of all, you get to play a friggin Space Marine. I hope that it is as much fun to play as it seems it should be.

The only gripe I have is that there are only six marine chapters represented, and no rules to create you own, but I totally understand why. Now they can get suckers like me to buy another book that has more chapters and perhaps a third book that will allow me to make my own chapter!

I really can't wait for them to come up with some campaign books and some supplements to the aliens (again, only a few times, Chaos, Tau and Tyrannids, but I'm sure those will be in later books that I will have to buy).

Awesomesauce.

Review: Fear the Alien Part II

So I actually finished this book soon after I posted the review of the first part, but I've been lazy so I didn't get around to writing a review until now.

The next story up was called, "Sanctified" by Mark Chapman. This was sort of unusual as it is told from the point of view of an Enginseer trying to thwart and alien boarding of his ship. I liked this because it was different. It was cool to see the Enginseer's cold calculating methods for taking down the aliens. Very enjoyable story.

After that there was, "Faces" by Matthew Farrer. I really wanted to like this story as I have just finished the first Arbitor Calpurnia novel and I liked that. I think the real reason I didn't like the story was because I just didn't get it. It was too weird for me, and I just don't know if I'm smart enough to get this story. I'm sure there are tons of people out there that liked it, but it was just too odd for me.

Hobbit says what?

Well this is a bit different. Tomorrow afternoon I will be rolling up a D&D character with a group of work buddies. Oh, did I mention that my wife will be playing with us? Shes the best. I guess we'll be playing D&D 3.5, and my wife decided that we needed the Players Handbook so she could get some background. Well after looking through a couple of Half Price Books, we couldn't find the book, so we went into a FLGS and she decided she wanted to buy herself a mini. Well I couldn't let her do that, so I had to buy myself one as well. I have decided to play Halfling rogue, and my wife started out wanting to play a caster, but then decided she wants to play a bard. Unfortunately her mini doesn't have a particularly bard-y look to her, but oh well.

Anywho, here are the minis we'll be playing with.

Mini-Love

So my WHFB mini-rulebook came in the mail today. Wow, what a nice little book. And by little I mean 184 pages! Oh, and its in color with a lot of the big splash pages from the BRB.

Now all I have to do is motivate myself to actually play the game. It sounds like my Dorfs are actually pretty deadly in 8th ed.

Oh, I got some dice, and a set of crappy templates. Not bad for $20!

PAINT FIGHT! Iron Priest

So Phil over at Space Wolf Grey helped to kick start me when it comes to painting up my Iron Priest. And seeing as he has challenged me, I really felt like painting this guy. Well I sat down last night and painted up the main body, and tonight I did his backpack.

Mini-Update: Wolf Banner

So I've been hearing good things about the Wolf Banners so I decided to get a couple ready. I've used them twice now and both time I've been disappointed. Not in the Wolf Banner, in myself. The first time was when I assaulted a Daemon Prince, and forgot to pop it. In the second fight I played against Mech IG, and I the only thing I got to assault were vehicles that had moved less than 6 inches. So I'm still looking forward to tossing it out with a full squad.

Anywho, here is my first one. Done up in Red and Black for my first pack of Grey Hunters, the next one will be in Black and Red. I'm so original.

Next up on the bench, Iron Priest and Wulfen.

So two projects up on the workbench next. First is an Iron Priest with servitors. A while back my wife bought me the Techmarine with Servitors boxset. I have cut the heads off of the servitors and I have strapped on the wolf helm helmets from the Wolf Pack sprue. I have to adjust the heads a bit, because they look like they are staring at their feet, but I think they look pretty good.

Review: Fear the Alien Part I

So have you ever bit into something you expected to taste like chocolate but it tasted like strawberries instead? I mean, you like strawberries, and it tastes good, but you had your heart set on chocolate. That's how I feel about, "Fear the Alien."

For some reason I was expecting a book of stories written from the alien's point of view, and I was really excited about that. Now I don't know if I just made that up in my own head, or if I read somewhere that it was supposed to be all xenos.

It turns out that on 2 out of 10 stories were written from the xenos point of view. Now that being said, quite a few of these short stories are very, very good.

Mathhammer: Blood Claws Blah

Stolen from Big Jim on the
Space Wolves Blog.
Stolen from Lexicanum.

So I've been painting recently and just finished up 26 Blood Claws. Now It may be that this has been a waste of time because I just don't think Blood Claws are worth it in the new book which is a switch, because in the old 3rd ed. supplement, I felt the say way about Grey Hunters.

The main reason for taking the Blood Claws in the old 'dex was that they were 3 points cheaper, oh, and GHers had to pay a point to get BP and a CCW, oh, and you can get up to 3 PFs in a squad not counting a Wolf Guard Leader, and you can have up to 15 dudes which mean a lot of ablative wounds for the PFs, OH! and they get 4 attacks on the charge!

It's Been a Long Time Coming.

Well it's been a rough couple weeks getting back into the swing of work again, so my hobby has suffered. I've been working 10 hours a day and coming home and working a couple more hours.

This past weekend was a three day weekend so I actually got quite a bit done. What started out as 10 or so Blood Claws I had to do turned into 24 dudes I worked on. I didn't quite finish them before the weekend was over, but I did finish it this evening.

Review: Path of the Warrior

So this is a unusual book for The Black Library as it is from a xenos point of view, and they don't do that very often.

This book tells the tale of an eldar that, you guessed it, follows the path of the warrior. I enjoyed this book a lot, mainly because I learned a lot more about the background fluff of the eldar. I knew the basics, that they follow paths to keep their lives simple and basic, and to keep themselves from becoming too decident. We learn about a few of the paths other than the path of the warrior, the path of the sculpter, and my favorite, the path of the dreamer. If I were to be a dirty, dirty, space elf, I would totally follow the path of the dreamer.

I Choose YOU!

So I bought my Choosers yesterday, and I primed them last night. After walking the dogs this morning, I decided to paint them up. They were really quick to do. Its not my best painting, but I think they'll do fine as my Choosers of the Slain.

Impassible Terrain!

So I went down to one of the remaining FLGS this weekend in search of my choosers of the slain. They were having what looked like a 40k couples tournament. Goatboy was there playing his new daemons. Wow these models look crazy (In a good way!) Goatboy was playing with Darkwynn who appeared to be playing marines, perhaps of the chaos variety (edit: turns out they were also Blood Angels). There were only 4-5 tables going, like 16-20 people and it appeared there were 3-4 Blood Angles.

I did find the models I was looking for so I paid up and I was on my way out when I saw this, and I had to go back and take a picture.

This is Azwan (sp?), and she has been in Dragon's Lair for at least 10 years, and she is the real power behind DL. I asked the guys playing this game and they said, "Well she owns the store, we're counting her as impassible terrain."
