A (Dwarf) Pirate's Life For Me

So it's been quite a while since I bought these Dwarf Pirates for a steal from the FLGS. I really enjoyed painting them, and while it took me a while, they were a lot of fun and I think they look great.

Basically: Dwarf Pirates

Ever had deja vu?

So a while back, I purchased some bases from Back 2 Base-ix. I am planning to put my Dwarf Pirates on these bases. As with my Grey Knight bases from last time, the slow down has, well, slowed me down and I haven't really done as much as I wanted. I did however, finally get my bases done for the Pirates.

Pieces of Eight!

Well here we are. Finally done with my Dwarf Pirates (sort of). I figured when would be a better time to post these guys than the day before Thanksgiving (at least for those of us in the U.S. at least) because I am very thankful that I found these guys in a used mini bin at the FLGS.

Yo Ho Ho!

This was going to be two posts, but I just wasn't sure I could subject you to even more posts of Dwarf Pirates (my wife has informed me that not everyone is as into Dwarf Pirates as I am).

A Bit of a Left Turn

So a while back I bought a box of the Dwarf Berserkers from Avatars of War. Well they have been sitting in the box for a couple of months now and I decided to put them together.

Here they are. Not bad for $33.

Avast!

I am head over heels in love with the Dwarf Pirates I picked up. I sat down recently to put some paint on them, and here are some WiP shots.

Yaaaaar!

So last weekend when I went into one of the FLGS to pick up the Necron codex, I had heard that someone had dropped off a lot of WHFB stuff for the owner to sell.

I went poking through the box and found these! 15 Dwarf pirates, yaaar!

A pic of the whole gang!

Intermission

So I am out of town for training Sunday night through Thursday night. That means very little hobby will be done.

I am setting up a couple of posts so that I will have something posted, but it will not be "current".

First thing first. I finally received my Dwarf Berserkers from Avatars of War. They were only 6 weeks late in shipping them.

I Think I'm In Love

A while back, I talked about Avatars of War and the new Dwarf Berserkers that they have coming out. Well finally after a loooooooooooooong time waiting, they finally have them up for pre-order.

These models look fan-friggin-tastic. The detail on them is superb from the looks of it and I can't wait to get my grubby mitts on them.

The only bad thing is that they pre-orders don't ship until the end of May, and I really don't want to wait that long.

I don't know if I'll ever play my WHFB Dwarfs, but I think that these Berserkers will look great as Slayers. The best part is that for abolut $36  (€25) this is much cheaper than trying to get 20 slayers off of the GW site.

Have You Checked Out Avatars or War Lately?

I hadn't. I liked the idea of the Dire Wolf as a Fenrisian Wolf for my Space Wolves. The problem has always been price. With the new Space Wolf book, you could possibly run 15-20 wolves easily, and at $15 a pop, there was no way I was going to use the Dire Wolf model, no matter how cool it is, and it doesn't really look like it would mix and match with the sad little wolves I have from GW.

I really liked a couple of their sculpts for the Dwarfs including the Dwarf Berserker and the Dwarf Lord. I was always considering getting the Berserker as a champion for a Slayer Unit, or a Daemon Slayer if I ever choose to run one. I have been slowly collecting Slayers but they seem to be the kind of models that you want ever single one to be Unique. For that reason I have shied away from the box sets from GW. I am bought a few off of eBay but I really don't want to spend $8 a model for guys that I probably wont use that often.

Then I see this on the Avatars of War site! A box of 32-36 individual "Slayers" for about $45 US? Yes please! I can tell you I will be picking these up as soon as they become available!

Oh, and I saw they have a named Berserker model, and a new Standard Bearer!

Mini-Love

So my WHFB mini-rulebook came in the mail today. Wow, what a nice little book. And by little I mean 184 pages! Oh, and its in color with a lot of the big splash pages from the BRB.

Now all I have to do is motivate myself to actually play the game. It sounds like my Dorfs are actually pretty deadly in 8th ed.

Oh, I got some dice, and a set of crappy templates. Not bad for $20!

Damn You Black Library!

So I've been reading a lot of Black Library books. Recently I've started in on Fantasy. The first one I picked up was a Dorf book (of course) called Honourkeeper by Nick Kyme. I then went into the Gotrek and Felix First and Second Omnibuses (Omnibusi?). There were some really good books in there. I especially liked Daemonslayer and Beastslayer, and I loved the use of the Skaven in the books.

Well after I finished the second omnibus, I didn't think the third was out yet, so I bought some other books. I picked up the 40k book Inquisition War which seems very interesting and it also happens to be one of the first Black Library publications, I believe. I also picked up Matthias Thulman: Witch Hunter which is a three book omnibus as well as The Blackhearts yet another omnibus. I heard on one of the podcasts about the Times of Legends series, which looks to be WHFB version of the Horus Heresy, so I picked up and read Heldenhammer with is the story of the rise of Sigmar and the fledgling Empire. Good book. After I finished reading that I went back and read the first short stories and the first book in the Witch Hunter book. I then saw the Third Gotrek and Felix book so I had to pick that one up.

Then
Tamara comes home with Rynn's World which seems to be the first in a new series of books for 40k which go over some of the significant battles that the Space Marines have fought. And F me if it doesn't start out good. So not-so-long story, long. I've got an ass-ton (perhaps even a metric ass-ton) of really good books waiting to be read.

Anywho, I'm off to read some more Rynn's World.
