Finished Wulfen

Well, after another looooooooooong wait, I finally finished the Wulfen. I think these guys turned out pretty well. I'm a little iffy on some of the teeth. I am kinda against painting eyes and teeth on minis, as I am of the of the belief that from the prospective distance of an arms length away, you wouldn't be able to see "the whites of their eyes." Same thing with teeth. Plus, I'm thinking that Wulfen wouldn't be using Crest White Strips, but whatever.

Also there was the bright colors, but I discussed that last time.

Anywho, here they are.

Wulfen Update

Well I promised Wulfen for Monday, but that didn't happen. That's mainly because of Pathfinder. I bought three figures for the Pathfinder campaign I'm in on Friday, and had them painted up for them for the game we played on Sunday (I'll post pics of them on Friday). So this left me very little time to do anything for the Wulfen.

All I really got done with them is their shoulder pads. I went over the Iyander Darksun and Mechrite Red to brighten those colors up, and I thought I should have more done to post an update.

Anywho. I put a couple of hours into the Wulfen today. Pretty much the only thing I have left to do on them are the actual wolf heads, the wolf tails, and any purity seals that are on the armor.

So here they are.

A Space Wolf Update? Oh My!

After a long time without painting anything Wolfie, I am back to painting my Space Wolves. I haven't done a whole lot yet, but it is a start.

First thing first, I have started working on my Wulfen. These guys have been primed, base coated, and high lighted. In addition, they all have completed bases. All I have done with them today is to wash them in Asurmen Blue. Tomorrow I plan on going over the red and yellow (god I hate yellow).

The two things I love most about the Wulfen are the heads from Maxmini. these really make these guys bestial. The second thing is the chain axes. I want those to represent the fact that these dudes do rending attacks. I know in the book it says they attack with their teeth and claws to get the rending, but this is how I am going to represent it. It is also another thing that lets the minis stand out from the crowd.

Painting: On the Road

So my wife is thinking that she wants to buy an RV and drive around during the summer while I'm not teaching.

So this week we have rented a 37-foot RV to take out for a week and see if it is agreeable to us.

One of the things we are both worried about is taking enough things to do to keep me occupied for weeks on end. I figured this would be a good time to get some painting done, so I packed up some stuff and we headed out.

Next up on the bench, Iron Priest and Wulfen.

So two projects up on the workbench next. First is an Iron Priest with servitors. A while back my wife bought me the Techmarine with Servitors boxset. I have cut the heads off of the servitors and I have strapped on the wolf helm helmets from the Wolf Pack sprue. I have to adjust the heads a bit, because they look like they are staring at their feet, but I think they look pretty good.

Space Wolf Kill Team

Well I found out at noon that one of the FLGS is hosting a kill team event this evening at about 5pm. So I decided to pack up 500 points of space Wolves and give it a try.

I decided to try a Wolf Priest because I figured I can "prefer enemy" on infantry and be pretty safe seeing as we are only allowed an HQ and 2 Troops. So this kicked me in the ass to finish up my Ulrik the Slayer.

Wulfen anyone?

So the Mark of the Wulfen upgrade that I can put in one of my Grey Hunters, Blood Claws or Wolf Guard Units. The dude in the unit that has the mark replaces the number of attacks he normally has with D6+1 attacks with rending. If someone has a special weapon (fist, claws etc.) the special rules for the weapon are not used. This is still frigging awesome. I have charged a sole survivor with the mark into a full squad of Tau fire warriors and wiped them out.

For the modeling side of this, I wanted to get a box of the 13th Company Wulfen from the old 3rd ed mini-dex Eye of Terror. These minis are pretty cool and show the fluff of the model. It says that the marked Space Wolf has shunned the use of any close combat weapons and is clawing at his opponent.

The problem is that these minis are OOP and go for a mint on eBay. I believe the original box went for $35, and I have no problem spending $7 on a mini as most metal minis are $15+ on the GW site. On ebay you are lucky to get the box for $70.

So I was cruising the interwebs and I found these bits from Maxmini as I was reading the Hogs of War blog. I'm not 100% on these, but 6 heads for $10 beats 5 dudes for $70.

I may have to pick some up.
